Attendance Policy
Temple Christian School

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Regular attendance is required for all students enrolled at Temple Christian
School. The laws of the State of Florida define regular attendance as the
actual attendance of a student in the class or an educational trip that
constitutes part of the school approved instructional program. Parents are
responsible for their child’s school attendance. Whenever the child is
absent, a parent/guardian must report and explain the cause of the absence
to the school. Criteria for determining an excused absence as provided in
state law is: (1) Absence for religious instruction or holiday, and (2)
Absence due to sickness, injury or any other insurmountable condition.
TCS has established the following policies pertaining to absence. Students
and parents are asked to do the following:
-
Provide specific written medical, dental, or court validation to the
office immediately upon returning after an absence. Elementary students
are to give the note to their teacher.
-
Parents should call the school office on the day of the absence by 8:30
a.m. and send a note with student upon their return.
-
All students are required to sign out at the school office when leaving
school early. Students may be checked out during the day for the following
reasons: doctor or dental appointment, medical emergency, illness or other
legitimate cause as determined by the faculty/administration.
-
Students with advance knowledge of their absence must notify the
elementary office. If permission is granted, the student will be able to
obtain classroom assignments prior to the absence.
-
School sponsored activities, whether on or off campus, do not count as an
absence.
NOTE: Students absent for an extended period of time may be dismissed from
school after 15 days of unexcused absence provided that reasonable
means of notifying the parent have been made (phone, letter, personal visit)
and there has been no acceptable parent response by the end of the 15th
day.
TARDIES
-
All students have the responsibility to arrive promptly to their scheduled
class.
-
A student is considered tardy whenever he/she reaches the classroom after
the bell.
A student may be given demerits or a detention if a staff member in the
hall stops them and they do not have a pass, after the bell or during a
class period.
Any student in extra curricular activities (athletic or fine arts) must be
in school at least ½ of the school day in order to participate that day.
Tardies will be considered a disciplinary matter and will be handled as
follows: 1) All students are to report to the school office for a pass if
tardy at the beginning of the day. 2) The school office will record
tardies. Conduct and effort grade may be lowered.
Most tardies are unexcused. Please make every effort to be
punctual. Tardiness interrupts and distracts classes already in session.
Tardies are defined as the following:
Excused Tardy (must be accompanied by a written note) by a legal
guardian.
-
The car in which the student is riding/driving breaks down in route to
school.
-
The student experiences temporary illness and reports to the office or
clinic before going to the classroom.
-
Traffic or weather related circumstances (Administrator’s discretion)
-
Doctor’s appointment with a written excuse from the doctor’s office.
Unexcused Tardy
The administration will provide an excused tardy slip if the situation
warrants it.
For doctor and dental appointments, please furnish the forms from the
doctor’s office as your written excuse.
If a student doesn’t drive, it is the responsibility of the parents to
have their child at school before 8:00 a.m.
Students with 15 demerit points within a nine weeks period will receive
an Administrative detention.
The intent of these Absence and Tardy Policies is not to cause hardships on
students…quite the contrary. We feel it will benefit the students. Missed
classroom discussions and interactions cannot be made up and will be
detrimental to the student. We hope, through these policies, to encourage
attendance and decrease interruptions and thus improve learning.
