Discipline Policy

Temple Christian School

General Discipline Philosophy

It is the goal of TCS to help develop character in its students through cooperation with the home and church to help "Train up a child in the way he should go…" (Proverbs 22:6). The home has been given the primary responsibility for the development of character (Duet.6:6), and the school acts as a delegated authority to reinforce values and principles being taught at home. We believe the school is able to do this by having a Bible-centered curriculum and born-again teachers who support and supplement the Biblical principles of behavior begun by the student’s parents.

We realize that not all students come from homes where these Biblical standards have been strongly emphasized. However, students who choose to be a part of our school will be expected to follow our standards of conduct willingly and with a good spirit.

Effective classroom discipline is a necessary key ingredient for a good learning environment. To maintain a good learning environment, we expect students to conduct themselves appropriately. Proverbs 25:28 refers to self-discipline, which comes through Christian character. It is the purpose of the disciplinary system to aid young people in the development of Christian character. The Scripture says that all things should be done "decently and in order" (I Corinthians 14:40). Thus, at Temple Christian School, discipline is maintained which is firm and consistent, yet tempered with love.

"Temple Christian's staff is extremely dedicated, both inside and outside of the classroom, and are willing to help their students

with any matter."

The teacher is responsible to maintain appropriate classroom behavior. Certain behavior is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. The following is not a complete list but is representative of unacceptable behavior: talking without permission, failure to complete assigned work, fighting, lying, stealing, disrespect, cursing, forging another's name, cheating, public display of affection, or deliberately damaging school or another's property.

A sense of the need for spiritual growth in the light of Biblical principles has led Temple Christian School to adopt Standards of Conduct which are believed to be conducive to the environment that will best promote the spiritual welfare of the student. Students are expected to abide by the Standards of Conduct throughout their enrollment whether at home, school, or elsewhere. Students will not be admitted to class without a signed "Standard of Conduct" agreement on file at TCS. Keeping the "Standard of Conduct" is necessary to remain a student at Temple Christian School. Students who do not report violations may be subject to disciplinary action.

We encourage students to practice self-discipline and to admonish one another in keeping the school rules and policies. These rules and policies are designed to aid the development of character by teaching obedience, respect, and responsibility. Obedience is essential to the development of maturity and results in genuine freedom in one’s life (Hebrews 5:8-9). Respect is necessary for all successful and meaningful relationships (Romans 12:3-18); and, assuming responsibility develops a sense of achievement, a necessary ingredient for a healthy self-worth. (Romans 14:12) (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

Please feel free to consult with the office about any problem or question that concerns the welfare of students. It is the desire of the administration and the faculty to be of service to both parent and student; each teacher welcomes a visit from any parent. We do urge, however, that such visits be made by appointment with the teacher at a convenient after-school hour. Every visitor must sign in at the front office and must wear a visitor's badge at all times.

Full cooperation is expected from both student and parents in the education of the student. If at any time the school feels that this cooperation is lacking, the student may be requested to transfer out. Also, if the student's behavior or attitude indicates an uncooperative spirit or one that is out of harmony with the spirit and standards of Temple Christian School, whether or not there is any definite breach of conduct, he/she may be requested to transfer out.

Temple Christian School is above all else a Christian institution in both philosophy and practice. We firmly believe there is no place at TCS for worldly practices or divisions so common among other institutions. Temple Christian School has the reputation of having a student body with an excellent spirit with every student treated equally and fairly regardless of nationality, race, or background. Therefore, any student who promotes division or a divisive spirit through secret clubs, symbols, pictures, writings, flags, banners, slogans, or any divisive activism that is out of harmony with the standards and Christian philosophy of Temple Christian School and may be withdrawn or refused re-enrollment at the discretion of the administration.

Temple Christian School reserves the right to exceed the established discipline procedure at the discretion of the administration if the offense warrants it. Any behavior that brings into question the reputation of Temple Christian School in the community may result in immediate expulsion regardless of the number of offenses.

Attendance at Temple Christian School is a privilege and not a right. Students forfeit this privilege if they do not conform to the standards and ideals of work and life at Temple Christian School.
