General Information: Secondary School
Temple Christian School

(Alphabetized)
ACTIVITIES AND ATHLETICS
We believe that it is important to offer extra-curricular and special
activities that go above and beyond the everyday classroom academics. Our
Jr./Sr. high students have the opportunity to participate in different
activities.
Some of these activities include the Academy of Arts performance, homecoming
dinner, school newspaper, yearbook, clubs and the end of the year awards
banquet. These students also have an opportunity to be involved in physical
activities, which include: volleyball, basketball, softball, and
cheerleading for girls; and football, basketball, and baseball for boys.
Athletes in grades 9-12 must maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 and grades 7-8
students must advance with their class. Each year a physical form (completed
since May 1) must be turned in to the athletic director before participation
is allowed in any sport. This form is provided by the Florida High School
Athletic Association and is available in the school office. All students
participating in interscholastic sports must have proof of insurance.
TCS requires that all students participating in extra-curricular activities
and interscholastic sports not only maintain a 2.0 GPA but also not acquire
a failing grade in any of their classes. If a student’s GPA is 2.0 or higher
and they have a failing grade for that grading period, they are ineligible
to participate for two weeks. After two weeks, they must obtain a grade
check from their teacher in that subject area. In order for them to resume
participation, their grade must be a C or higher.
ATHLETIC FEES
Athletic fees for elementary 4th-6th grade will be
$25.00; junior high school 7th and 8th grades will be
$50.00; high school 9th through 12th will be $75.00
for all sports except football. The athletic fee for football will be
$100.00. Any student playing up to a higher level must pay the higher-level
fee. These fees are a one-time annual sports fee to participate in all
sports, not paid per sport. This fee is non-refundable and will be assessed
only after a student is included on the team roster.
AUTOMOBILE POLICIES
It is a privilege to be able to bring a car to school.
-
1. All student-driven cars are to be registered in the school office.
-
Each driver should be an example of courteous, careful driving habits.
Follow the directions of those directing traffic. Use vehicle turn
signals.
-
Cars are to remain parked until student leave for the day. Parking areas
will be assigned when the car is registered.
-
Cars are not to be occupied during school hours, nor are students to sit
in parked cars while waiting for school to begin.
-
Seniors will have a special area for parking. Parking spaces will be
designated on Orientation Day on a first come, first served basis.
-
Vehicle noise is to be kept to a minimum. No racing of engines or loud
radios.
-
All vehicles should be driven no faster than 5 mph while in the parking
lot.
-
Student vehicles may be subject to search.
Failure to observe these policies will necessitate cancellation of the
privilege of driving your car to school.
AWARDS
At the end of every school year, an annual Academic and Athletic Awards
Assembly will be held to recognize students for their academic, athletic,
and leadership achievements. At the end of each sports season, a reception
is held to present the awards for athletic accomplishments.
BACKPACKS AND BOOK BAGS
Students may carry plain book bags or backpacks to school, however, they
will not be permitted in the classroom. Book bags and backpacks will be
stored in school lockers. No inappropriate book bags or backpacks are
acceptable. Backpacks with our school logo may be purchased from Sir Walter
Uniform.
BOOKS
All textbooks are the property of Temple Christian School; however, the
safekeeping of assigned books is the responsibility of the individual
student to whom they are assigned. ALL BOOKS ARE REQUIRED TO BE COVERED WITH
A BOOK COVER. Students who damage or lose books will be responsible to
provide replacement or repair money under the specifications of the school
administration. Students keep consumable textbooks; all non-consumable
textbooks are returned to TCS.
BUS/VAN RULES
Bus service charges are for August through May and are paid in advance
beginning at Orientation. They should be included in the same check as
tuition. Payment for both tuition and bus service for the first month must
be made by the Orientation to be eligible for transportation at the
beginning of the school year. Students who want to add bus service in
succeeding months may do so only as space and time allow. All changes
(including withdrawals) in bus service must go through the
financial secretary. Students riding the bus one day or more of any month
will owe the full month's bus service charge.
All bus transportation must be paid monthly in advance with tuition payment.
Anyone not paid by the 10th of each month will not be transported by bus.
Because of the number of students transported, routes are designed with
pickup and delivery points. House stops are not provided.
It is understood that the bus cannot wait at the morning stops for any
student, as that would disrupt the time schedule, causing all the students
on the bus to be tardy. It will be necessary to bring your child to school
if he/she misses the bus.
Students who ride the bus/van for any reason are to follow the list of rules
given. These rules are:
-
Students are not to bring radios, cassette players (including walkmans),
beepers, or phones without permission.
-
The driver may assign students seats.
-
Students must remain seated at all times.
-
Nothing is to be placed outside the windows or thrown from (or within) the
vehicle.
-
No food, candy, gum or drinks are allowed on the vehicles.
-
Neatness is expected. Deposit trash in proper receptacle – not in vehicle.
-
Students are to be courteous, respectful, and reasonably quiet, and are to
behave in a Christ-like manner to other students and the driver. Rude
gesturing of any kind is prohibited.
-
All buses will stop at railroad crossings at which time all students shall
be absolutely quiet.
-
Oversized science fair projects or show and tell items cannot be carried
on the bus or van.
-
Parents will be charged for any damage to the bus incurred by the student.
Any problems concerning bus scheduling should be brought to the attention of
the school office.
CHAPEL
Chapel service is held weekly. Each student is required to bring a Bible and
paper to take notes during Chapel. Chapel notes will be collected and/or
checked by their Bible teacher. Conduct during Chapel must be respectful.
Any misbehavior or disrespect will be treated as unacceptable conduct.
CLUBS
Clubs are offered during school every other Wednesday. At Orientation,
students will select which Club they would like to attend. Clubs include:
Student Government, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Anchor, Spanish, and
others depending on student interest.
CONFERENCES
Telephone conferences are scheduled for times at the discretion of the
teacher and parent. If you wish to talk to a teacher, please call the school
office at 321-269-2837, and leave a message for the teacher to return your
call. If a telephone call cannot solve the situation, the teacher will
schedule a conference.

3:15 p.m. – All students must be out of the building, with a teacher, or in
extended care. Parents should make other arrangements for picking up their
children if they know they will be late. It is against school policy for
students to stay after school in the parking lot, on the school grounds, or
in the area to attend an evening ballgame or activity. Parents must pick up
students in the afternoon and return them for the evening event.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES
Cell phones, beepers, pagers or any other electronic devices are not allowed
in class or during school hours. They must be turned off during school
hours.
Students should not bring any electronic devices, radios, tape players, CD
players, video games, etc. unless requested by the student’s teacher and
given prior approval from the administration. If caught on school campus,
these items will be confiscated. Students must go to the office to call home
or a parent’s cell phone.
EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBERS
All student files should contain at least two alternate emergency numbers in
case something happens to a student and parents cannot be reached by phone.
If there are any changes in these numbers, please notify the school of the
new numbers. It is very important that current numbers are on hand at all
times. Cell phone numbers are also required, if available.
FIELD TRIPS
The purpose of a field trip is to enhance and add to the classroom
educational program by offering experiences, which cannot be accomplished
within the classroom setting. We welcome participation of parents in the
learning process of their children. One of the most common ways that parents
may participate is as a chaperone on a field trip. In order to prevent
misunderstandings and create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation, the
following points will help you understand what is expected from chaperones.
-
Parents will be notified well in advance of all field trip dates. We
encourage parents to participate as chaperones.
-
The field trip is only for children in the class. Other arrangements
should be made for brothers and sisters. Chaperones are there to assist
the teacher in the care and supervision of the class.
-
Due to insurance considerations, when school transportation is provided,
all students must travel in the school vehicle. Students leaving with
their own parents must give written notification prior to the trip.
-
It is understood that parents will abide by the school conduct and dress
codes as a representative of the school (i.e., no smoking, drinking of
alcoholic beverages, unseemly language, inappropriate behavior, or
inappropriate dress).
-
Unless otherwise instructed by the teacher, chaperones and their children
are to remain with the group at all times. In case of emergency, the
teacher will decide what is to be done.
-
If any child’s behavior becomes unpleasant in actions or attitude, the
teacher may reassign the child’s supervision.
-
All conversation among parents should be confined to nonjudgmental
subjects. Do not critically discuss individual children, families, or
school policies.
-
If you feel a teacher is unaware of a problem you see with a child or
group of children, please tactfully let the teacher know.
-
Students should never leave the group, even to go to the restroom. The
chaperone should accompany them, or stand at the door, after making an
attempt to clear the restroom.
-
A field trip is not a good time for a parent-teacher conference. If you
need to discuss your child’s progress or problems with the teacher, please
schedule a conference time when you will have privacy and the full
attention of the teacher.
-
If you agree to go on the trip and then find you are unable to go, please
let the teacher know as soon as possible.
FIRE/TORNADO DRILLS
TCS has nine fire drills and at least one tornado drill to ensure student’s
quick, safe exit from the building in case of fire or other hazard. The
continuous ringing of the fire alarm signals the drill. Teachers will have
instructed their students in proper procedures. Students should follow these
quickly and quietly. Fire drill routes are posted in every room.
GUARDIANSHIP
Students must reside with parents or a legal guardian in order to maintain
status as a student.
HALL PASS
Students are issued hall passes in their homeroom. Students out of class
without a signed hall pass will receive 2 (two) demerits.
HONOR SOCIETY
Temple Christian School sponsors National Christian Honor Society for grades
10-12 and Junior Christian Honor Society for grades 7-9. Induction into this
group is based on scholarship (3.5 average), leadership, character, and
service. The induction ceremony takes place in the spring of each year.
HOURS (Main Office)
The main office is open from 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday,
and Friday. Hours on Wednesday are 7:30am-2:00pm. The office is generally
closed when school is not in session. Summer office hours are 8:30 a.m. to
3:00 p.m., Monday – Thursday. All financial matters should be taken care of
in the finance office.
ILLNESS
For the welfare of you child and others in the school, all children who are
sick must be kept at home. When the child is well enough to participate in a
normal school day, he/she may return.
LIBRARY
Use of the library is a privilege. The fines for over-due books are 15 cents
per day.
LOCKERS
The office will assign hall lockers. Students may not change lockers without
permission. Lockers will be checked routinely. Students are expected to keep
their lockers clean and neat. Stickers or questionable pictures of any kind
are not to be put up on the inside or outside. Book bags are to be stored in
the locker. At night book bags should be taken home or they will be placed
in the lost and found. Only combination locks are allowed and the
combination must be given to the office.
LOST AND FOUND
Articles that are found on campus should be turned in to the office. Those
articles not claimed within 30 days will be taken care of at the discretion
of the administration.
LUNCH
Students are encouraged to purchase lunches on a weekly basis. The teacher
will collect all lunch money each morning. Anyone purchasing a lunch for one
day, must turn in their money to their teacher that morning. (Our lunchroom
receives no federal aid.) Lunch menus are posted in each room and sent home
with the newsletter.
Lunches will be served and eaten in the dining hall every day with the
exception of Tuesday. Tuesday’s lunch will be eaten under the pavilion. No
microwaves are available on Tuesday so please do not send any microwaveable
food with students.
MANDATORY PARENT MEETING
Parent meetings, orientation, and conferences promote a good understanding
between the parent/guardian and the faculty and administration of Temple
Christian School. The Parent Orientation/Open House meeting will be held at
the beginning of each school year. Parent meetings are scheduled during the
first and third quarter of each school year. Orientation and parent meetings
are required and attendance will be taken. If you are unable to attend, we
will set a time for you to come and view the video of the meeting.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The music director is available for information and registration on
Orientation Day. Private lessons for piano, guitar, vocal, and music theory
will be offered this year. All payments are to be made directly to the music
instructor.
Lessons missed due to a student’s illness will be made up if the school
office is notified by 8:00am on the day of the lesson. Our policy is that we
do not make up lessons or deduct for lessons missed because of school
holidays.
PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION
There is to be no public display of affection at
school or at school related activities.
OVERNIGHT STUDENT TRIP POLICY
Students should wear appropriate clothing at all times. Dress code should be
maintained. Students should engage in school activities of a group nature
only. Under no circumstances will social dates involving students be
allowed. When a student is assigned to a group or a chaperone, he/she is to
remain with the group at all times unless he/she has made special
arrangements. Students should return with the group unless other traveling
arrangements are made prior to the time of departure. Notarized letters will
be required. Students should not be permitted to visit relatives or friends
while on a trip without previous arrangements, with the director. All school
rules are in effect during the trip and the students are expected to follow
the standards of conduct willingly and with a good spirit. Hotel rooms are
bedrooms. Under no circumstances should students of the opposite sex visit,
play cards, or entertain guests in their hotel rooms. If a student is to
entertain a visitor, he/she should check with his chaperone and receive
permission to do so in the hotel lobby or other public area. Chaperones may
assemble all students in a hotel room for a planned activity.
A curfew will be set by chaperones and all members of the group notified.
The time should allow a reasonable amount of time after the close of the
last event. Events should not be planned to last after 11:00 p.m. and the
curfew should not be later than 12:00 a.m. When any mixed group travels at
night a curfew hour will be announced by the chaperones and after this time
there should be segregation of sexes.
Teachers who assume the responsibilities for chaperoning a group of students
on an out-of-town trip should recognize that they are assuming a
twenty-four-hour-a-day responsibility from the time they leave until the
time they return. At no time may chaperones make personal plans except with
the consent of the person in charge of the trip. The drinking of alcoholic
beverages and/or tobacco usage is prohibited. Chaperones should keep check
on the members assigned to them at all times. At no time should students be
free from supervision unless it is a defined area (i.e. arena, park, etc.)
Chaperones should never retire until all students are checked in for the
night, all visiting between rooms has stopped and the chaperones are sure
the students are quiet and in their rooms. Policies are of no value unless
they are rigidly adhered to. It is not a matter of discretion on the part of
the chaperones as to whether or not they are to be adhered to. Regulations,
once decided upon, should be carried through. If a party includes members of
both sexes, there should be chaperones from each sex, or arrangements made
with a chaperone from another school so that responsibilities may be shared.
Trips which include more than six students are to have at least two
chaperones. All non-faculty/staff chaperones must be adults (over 21) and
approved by administration.
PATRIOTISM
Christian patriotism places emphasis upon the greatness of America’s
heritage and the sacrifices or our heroes. America’s Constitution guarantees
liberties to educate in order to preserve freedom. We unashamedly teach the
Biblical doctrines of self-discipline, respect for those in authority,
obedience to law, and love for God, flag, and country.
RE-ENROLLMENT
During the month of March, currently enrolled students may enroll for the
fall term on a first-come, first-serve basis in order to guarantee a
reserved spot. Temple Christian School admits students of any race, color,
national origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities
generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not
discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in
administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and
athletic or other school-administered programs .
SCHOOL CLOSURE/WEATHER CONDITIONS
TCS will make our own decisions in weather related situations. We will take
into consideration Brevard County’s decisions; however, factors that affect
the entire county may not have a bearing on TCS. TCS will make a public
statement in the following ways:
TV Channels: WESH 2, WKMG 6, WFTV 9,
FOX 35
Radio Channels: 89.3 FM
TCS School answering machine: (321)
269-2837
SCHOOL WIDE NEWSLETTER
The last day of every week TCS provides every student a newsletter that they
are to give to their parents. This newsletter is our way of keeping every
TCS family informed of new information and activities.
SENIOR TRIP
The senior class trip is considered a very valuable part of our students’
education. Students are given opportunities during the school year to earn
money for their trip. Those who participate enthusiastically in these fund
raising projects may earn the entire amount required. Those who participate
little, or not at all, will be responsible to pay for their trip.
Participation in the senior trip is a privilege and not a right. The Temple
Christian School administration reserves the right to prohibit any senior
from participating because of academic, behavioral, or medical concerns.
Anyone who commits to go on the senior trip and has not raised all the funds
necessary, will be responsible to pay the difference before going on the
senior trip.
STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
Junior/Senior High students are to enter through the northeast side and exit
on the southeast side of the north parking lot Monday though Friday.
Elementary (1st -6th) school students are to be
dropped off in front of the church/elementary school building or the
southeast parking lot after 7:45 a.m. Do not park your car in the drop-off
area at any time and leave it unattended. If you need to leave the car, or
take longer than usual to unload, please park in main parking lot, so that
the lane can keep moving. Students brought to school prior to 7:30 a.m. will
not be under the supervision of faculty. Students who are dropped off
between 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. must report to the pavilion area. TCS will
not assume responsibility for any students left on campus before 7:30 a.m.
STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
Temple Christian School has an active Student Government Association called
Student Council, that endeavors to "foster a spirit of cooperation among
students and faculty; maintain high standard of personal conduct, promote
and encourage activities for the student body". The Student Council is
composed of a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. In order
to be eligible to be in the Student Council a student must maintain a 2.0
average. All members of the student council are responsible to the Advisor
for their conduct as representatives of TCS. Members who directly violate
the rules of conduct listed in the handbook, cause embarrassment to the
school, or exhibit a lack of cooperation will be given a warning for the
first offense and be liable for removal from office for further offenses.
STUDENT PICTURES
Student pictures will be provided at a minimal charge. These photographs
will be taken in the fall and the spring. All pictures are pre-paid.
TELEPHONES
The office phones are for office use only. Except in unusual emergencies,
the only message office personnel may pass to students during the day is a
message to call home. Students need permission to use the phone during
school hours. Under no circumstances can a student use a cell phone to call
during school hours.
TESTING PROGRAM
Temple Christian School maintains a testing program as follows:
-
Stanford Achievement Test K5-11th in the spring
-
PSAT – Grade 10-11 in the fall
-
ASVAB – Grade 11 in the fall
High school students are encouraged to sign-up for the SAT and ACT tests in
their Junior and Senior years.
Testing for learning disabilities can be arranged through the FAITH and
EMPOWERMENT programs.
VISITORS
Parents who pick up students during the school day will meet the student in
the school office. Teachers are extremely busy during the school day.
Parents wishing to talk to a staff member should schedule an appointment or
call for a phone conference. All visitors must sign in at the school office
and receive a visitor’s badge. Visitors should sign out and turn in the
badge before leaving. Temple Christian School is a closed campus and does
not permit student visitation during school hours unless the student is
pre-approved by the administration to shadow for the day. These students
must sign in and out. All visitors are to wear a visitor’s badge at all
times.
VOLUNTEER PARENT AIDES
We always appreciate the cooperation and help we receive each year from our
parents as aides, both in the classroom and on field trips. There are many
things we could not do without your help. We ask that when you are assisting
in these areas you follow the teacher’s dress code (i.e. do not wear shorts,
flip flops, halter tops, etc). Again, we thank you for your cooperation in
this matter. Parents volunteering on a regular basis will need to follow
health and safety codes set for teachers and staff by the State of Florida.
Parents must check in through the office and receive a pass when on campus
during school hours.
WITHDRAWALS
All withdrawals from school must go though the school office. Students
having attended one day or more of any month will owe the full month’s
tuition.
YEARBOOK
The Yearbook is an avenue of student expression sponsored by Temple
Christian School. This publication is produced by the Yearbook class, which
guides and instructs students in responsible journalism and photography, as
well as helps finance these publications through the selling of advertising.
The fee for the yearbook helps offset the production costs.
